Mickey Williamson is a sculptor, ceramicist, and gallery preparator. They received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Western Michigan University in December 2021. He also worked at Richmond Center of Visual Arts (Gallery @ WMU) as a Student Assistant and Preparator for 5 years. His artistic journey began when he bought his first camera at 16. Photography inspired drawings and watercolor along with the use of photoshop for fun projects. They didn't discover sculpture until they were in Kalamazoo taking foundation art classes. In 2018 Mickey began making installations and sculptures in classes with Patrick Wilson. Steel and found objects were the subjects of their work until 2020. The pandemic put a hold on some creating and working for a summer, but WMU art students were lucky enough to have limited access to the studios the first year back. Mickey began working with clay, throwing vessels on the wheel and hand-building ceramic sculptures. Mickey's senior exhibition Textured Tales was an abstract examination of the history of man and materials through sculptures made of ceramic, clay, and stone with steel foundations. He was a resident for 9 months at The Kirk Newman Art School where he made steel and ceramic sculptures. He now works at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts as a preparator while pursuing game development on his free time.
