Fossilized Rock Wall
Wood-fired ceramics
I have a childlike craving to climb things. I climb trees mostly, but the acceptable place to climb as an adult is in a gym with a rock wall. Climbing outside is much more diverse and I enjoy feeling the organic textures. The texture of raw wood-fired ceramics reminds me of the natural rock walls I try to scale when I find them in my travels. The texture of organic material has been aged and affected by so much in its long history. Sometimes the rock or bark flakes away as I climb, leaving them permanently scarred by me. I become a part of its story told through the texture of the object.
Galleries are always full of enticing objects that I want to interact with. The unsatisfied urge to touch those works is what drives me to create and why I want to work in galleries. It gives me an opportunity to interact with the work intimately.
