Stalagmite Bite

Wood-fired ceramics & steel

Stalagmites take hundreds of years to build up on the bottom of cave floors. The minerals add on the surface much like the wood firing process. I like the idea of having a contemporary object with an aged texture which creates a curious timeline for it to live in. The placement of the ceramic forms and the structure holding them creates a potential biting motion as the stalactite form pulls down on the steel support. The stalactite and stalagmite function as a menacing entrance to a cave, like the teeth of a predator.
